The Omura is a Tier 5 Naval Unit on Serpulo obtained after upgrading the Sei through the Tetrative Reconstructor. It carries a large, long-range piercing railgun that damages enemies in a line, as well as two Flare Factories that spawn a pair of free Flares every few seconds.

Against[]

It is perhaps a relief that the Omura is never encountered in the Serpulo campaign, as its attacks are extreme to compensate for being confined to water. With a whopping 62 blocks, only the Foreshadow is able to even touch it and runs the risk of getting counter-sniped. Insectoid units like the Toxopid that usually excel at defeating other units will drown before landing any attacks, while the extremely high damage will wear down approaching Eclipses and Antumbras. Your only saving grace is that the default AI makes it cruise leisurely towards your close-range turrets; dealing with them under the control of the Logic Processor or a player in PvP would be nightmarish.

Though the slow tier 4 and 5 units are quickly gunned down, tier 3 units and below actually have a solid matchup against the Omura provided that you are good with micromanagement. The railgun rotates rather slowly, delaying the opportunities for it to take out multiple units at once. If you can surround it with Brydes and Cyerce, it should go down easily.

To make sure your base outlives the persistent assault from its railgun, you need to invest your resources into the triad of rapid repair: mass Mend Projectors, Poly and Mega. They must keep your Foreshadows alive and supplied, otherwise you will lose all of your defending strength and become a sitting duck waiting for defeat. Poly and Mega are easy to replenish by virtue of being low-tier units.

For[]

Because the Omura is only truly vulnerable to the Foreshadow, every defense in a sector regardless of threat level will fold as long as you heal it with Cyerce. In custom attack maps, use the Oct to guard your Omuras against Foreshadows, as it will direct fire and absorb all the shots. The Flares that it produces are mostly useless but can be free units for a transport system.

The Omura's power also makes it an extremely powerful albeit expensive defensive asset, as its high fire rate and pierce will outperform the Foreshadow without costing any Surge Alloy and power to maintain. The long range also means you will not have to make too many of them for full coverage, as only a few are enough to guard the map.

Trivia[]

  • Omura's payload size means it cannot be picked up as a payload by any unit across both planets. This trait is shared with the Eclipse, Navanax and Oct.
  • The Omura is the only unit that produces other non-projectile units. Conversely, the Flare is the only non-projectile unit produced from another unit.
    • Missile-firing units on Erekir are excluded from this as they spawn units to act as projectiles.
  • Omura is named after Balaenoptera omurai, the Omura's whale.
  • Omura is tied with the Navanax and Oct for the second-most armor on Serpulo at 16. The units that beat this record are the Reign at 18, Vanquish at 20 and the Conquer at 26.
  • Omura has the most range out of all units across both planets at 62 blocks.
  • The pair of Flares that the Omura spawns are identical to Flares from an Air Factory, except it does not require Silicon to produce but does produce 15 silicon each when fed to the Deconstructor. This can be a small source of silicon (2/sec per Omura), provided that access to the Deconstructor through Mixed Tech or a previous build with the Serpulo Deconstructor is available (works in both singleplayer and multiplayer).
